Mingenew Bakery owners say after 14 years of business it’s time to sell and move to Geraldton

Owners of the popular one-stop shop for your coffee, paper and pies at Mingenew Bakery have decided to sell after 14 years of service to the community. Sarah and Chris Gammon have made the decision to list the beloved store and family residence to relocate to Geraldton as their children head into their high school years. The Mingenew community jumped to comment on the update, congratulating the couple while expressing their sadness the locals would no longer be selling their baked goods. Advertised on Gumtree for $900 000, the town of Mingenew’s only bakery includes a renovated house attached to the back for the new owners to live inside. The bakery has a unique vintage-style interior and receives customers throughout the Mid West year-round, with traffic peaking in wildflower season. Mrs Gammon said since advertising the listing on Facebook on April 26 they had received interest. “There’s not been any buyers as yet, it’s only been on Facebook for a couple of days so it’s early,” she said. Mrs Gammon said she hoped the new owners continued to support the town and do their best to keep up the name. “One of the best memories would have to be Ernie Dingo,” she said. “He just came in one morning and started talking to us, I didn’t even realise who he was until the last minute. “It was really good to meet him.” Mrs Gammon said the couple had purchased a house in Geraldton and were looking to relocate there and work full-time. “I’ve never really planned to leave the bakery, we’ve just felt this year and the end of last year that maybe it was our time to pass it on and let someone else have a go,” she said. “My son’s in Year 10 next year and my daughter is in Year 6 . . . I want them home with us rather than in boarding school.” In 2007 the couple travelled to the west from NSW landing in Kununurra before settling in Mingenew where Mrs Gammon got a job at the bakery with the owners before them. With a loving for baking, the Gammons decided to purchase the business a few years later and then renovated the house, turning it into a luxurious modern space. Mrs Gammon said last year was their biggest year of sales since they began running the store 14 years ago and wanted to thank the community for their ongoing support.
