Northampton Show back for the 105th year with record number of attendees, ready to come back bigger next year

The Northampton Show returned for its 105th annual show on Saturday, welcoming back the biggest day in the calendar for the Shire. Show president Fred Porter confirmed it was another sell-out year, with more than 5000 in attendance by midday. “We’re absolutely thrilled with the result, the weather was great, all the events went really well, and we’re ready to do it all again next year,” said Mr Porter Popular events came in the form of quick shearing, motocross and the Marvellous Mid West Mullets competition in which two winners were crowned due to the abundance of entrants. The exhibition hall featured sheep, wool, grain, fodder and poultry shows, while the showjumping ring showcased the best equestrians in the region. Sideshow alley was a roaring success, with show bags, teddy bears and motion-sick toddlers filling the space. Humphrey B Bear’s performance gave parents a momentary break, as he captivated his audience of children. Sideshows and stallholders reported it was a record year for their income on the day. Mr Porter thanked the team of more than 100 volunteers who dedicate time and energy to making the day possible, and acknowledged the resilience of the community. “We were close to cancelling the show two years ago. Coming out of COVID, then a cyclone — this year really just shows how much the community are able to achieve.” Mr Porter said the committee were already in discussions with the Showmen’s association to lock in more rides for next year’s edition. “We’re ready to come back bigger and better — we’re taking on feedback and are looking to secure more rides,” he said.
