Images of the Mid West have been plastered on Perth buses, billboards and train stations as part of a tourism marketing blitz.

The City of Greater Geraldton says the Greater Escape campaign is aimed to improve tourism marketing efforts around Perth over the next month and entice people to travel north, in the hopes tourists will stop on Geraldton rather than pass through.

Collaborating with digital agency Perth Is OK!, the campaign will promote Geraldton and the city’s family-friendly holiday activities, hospitality venues and a list of top 10 things to see and do.

Mid West advertising will be seen on buses, billboards and train stations in the Perth CBD throughout March to June.

The campaign is also part of the City’s efforts to market Greater Geraldton and claim gold in the 2022 GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards after the city was named a finalist.

Mayor Shane Van Styn said winning the title would assist Geraldton in getting more folk to experience the beauty of the area.

“Geraldton has the best of coastal city living — we’ve got a vibrant CBD, exciting local operators, breathtaking natural assets, near-perfect weather year-round, world-class events and a welcoming community,” he said.

The City is urging residents and tourists to vote for the town as their favourite destination after Geraldton was named a finalist in the GWN Top Tourism Town Awards.

“We have some great competition and are calling on everyone who’s visited, planning a trip or lives here to help us claim the title of Top Tourism Town for 2022,” Mr Van Styn said.

Voting closes on Tuesday, May 24 and the winner will be announced at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference on Wednesday, June 22.
