Tim King lives up to his name in King of the Hill sprintcar contest win at Geraldton Speedway

King by name and King by nature — Tim King proved he had what it took to win the biggest event of the Geraldton speedway calendar. On a Saturday night filled with plenty of thrills and spills, King held up the chequered flag at the end of the King of the Hill feature race after his 320 limited sprintcar was quickest around 50 gruelling laps of the track on Saturday. “Tim King truly lived up to his last name as he tamed The Bullring With Attitude and was crowned The King of the Hill,” the Geraldton City Speedway said. “Thank you to all the limited sprintcar drivers and their crews for making the trip. “The atmosphere around the track and cheers from the crowd were fantastic. “A huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers and support division drivers as well. “Last night was nothing less then spectacular.” King beat Tim Boujos and Michael King to win the main event on the night in what the speedway association described as Australia’s richest limited sprintcar contest. The single-gear machines put out around 500-700 horsepower. There were several crashes on the night, with sprintcar drivers Craig Bottrell and Mike Hanlon going into each other and Brad Warwick’s car flipping. In the support divisions, Zak Turner was junior sedans winner, beating Bradley Chant and Murphy Reid. Dave Herbert won the productions division ahead of Bradley Short and Brock Reid. Nominations for the sprintcar division were stacked, with 28 drivers including several past winners of the race, while the junior and production sedans provided ample support. The track, which was redesigned for extra speed during the off-season, was due to host World Series sprintcars in February, but the event has been cancelled because of COVID-19. The next event will be the V8 modifieds State title on March 12. The night will feature support divisions. The two-day Mid West Championships will run in April.
