Why Geelong Cats champion Harry Taylor chose Northampton Rams for return to football in WA

Harry Taylor knocked back offers from clubs far and wide in WA before deciding to finish his footy career where it started — at Northampton. Taylor, 34, is arguably the highest-profile signing in the 60-year history of the Great Northern Football League, with followers of all clubs agreeing it will give the competition a boost. Taylor has moved to Geraldton from Geelong with his family and will work in his business, which specialises in sensory awareness around organisational culture. “When we opted to move back home, my first decision was if I wanted to continue playing footy,” he said. “When I decided yes, I talked to a few different clubs in a few different leagues, including East Fremantle. “But it was only respectful of me to talk to Northampton. After all, that’s where it started for me and I have strong ties there. “They gave to me and it was my turn to give back; it was probably about loyalty.” Taylor said he planned to play as “many games as possible” for the Rams, who have not flown a league flag since 2004. “I want to play more games than I don’t and want to play well enough to hold my spot,” Taylor said. “I have spoken to Beau Walker (new coach) and I will learn from him and I hope I can give back to the club. “We are excited to be back in the Mid West with our families and having more time with them.”
