Woman accused of immediately breaching bail, threatening to kill partner, claims manipulation and control

A woman accused of immediately breaching bail after being released and later threatening to kill her partner told a Kalgoorlie court none of it was true and she was being “manipulated and controlled”. Sonia West, 23, appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Thursday from police custody on 11 new charges including threaten to kill, aggravated common assault and multiple breaches of police orders and protective bail. The court was told Ms West appeared in the same court on Monday for a separate aggravated common assault charge which involved her allegedly assaulting her partner while holding scissors. She was released on bail after pleading not guilty with conditions not to approach him. Prosecuting Const. Kim Sullivan told the court on Thursday Ms West allegedly went straight to the protected person’s house after being released on bail and continued to breach the conditions during the next two days. On the day, police alleged Ms West pointed a knife at the man’s face, held him in a headlock and attempted to scratch his eye, threw objects at him and threatened to get someone to kill him. Const. Sullivan said the police had a complainant statement and were working on two witness statements as well. Ms West’s lawyer, Leneva Polmear, launched a bail application, stating the accusations against Ms West were not true and she believed she was being manipulated and controlled by her partner. She said Ms West was willing to do anything the court requires if she was to be released on bail, but she did not want to return to her hometown.
