Zeb Henry Sharp: Bail refused after accused breaks into DBCA building twice while on bail for school burglary

A Geraldton meth user accused of breaking into a government department building twice while on bail for a burglary at a primary school has been remanded in custody. Zeb Henry Sharp, 30, was remanded in custody for allegedly breaking into a State Government department building on July 31 and August 1 while he was on bail for another burglary charge. Prosecuting officer Sen. Const Thomas Potts said Mr Sharp was with a co-accused at 2.25am when he smashed the window to a Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions building and went inside. Sen. Const Potts said while inside, he stole a number of tools including a chainsaw, blower and drill, before fleeing the scene. The court was told in a second alleged break-in, Mr Sharp broke in through a window and kicked down a number of internal doors before stealing a Dell laptop. Sen. Const Potts said a shoe print on a desk matched a shoe at the 30-year-old’s home. He said during the search, police located the stolen tools in the backyard and the laptop on his bedside table, as well as the clothing he was wearing at the time. “There’s a pattern of offending here and I note that when arrested the accused was allegedly in possession of methylamphetamine,” he said, explaining his drug addiction could lead to more crime. Defence counsel Eva Svanberg said Mr Sharp would be willing to comply with drug and alcohol testing and curfew conditions. “He accepts he does have issues with drugs ... that condition could elevate concerns from the prosecution with regards to reoffending,” she said. The court was told Mr Sharp was released from custody for charges relating to a burglary at Beachlands Primary School in July and had served time for burglary in the past. He is charged with three counts of burglary, six counts of stealing, possess drug paraphernalia, two counts of possess methylamphetamine, possession of cannabis, two counts of trespass, two counts of criminal damage and two counts of possess stolen property. Mr Sharp has not entered pleas. Magistrate Kelly Thompson said it was not a weak prosecution case with regards to the matching shoe print, clothing and recovered items linking him to the scene. He was refused bail and will reappear on September 30.
