Man arrested after woman shot in arm at Ridgehaven, teens arrested over police chase at Christie Downs

An SA man has been charged after he allegedly faked online romances and ripped off elderly people of more than $150,000. The man, 25, was arrested today at his home in Rosewater and was charged with 28 counts of money laundering. Police allege he conducted a “series of online romance scams”, where elderly victims from across Australia were targeted. It is believed the scams involved funds of more than $150,000, which he then laundered, allegedly. Investigations are continuing, while the man was refused bail to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday. Man arrested after woman shot A man is in custody after a woman was shot in the arm during a confrontation in a car. The 37-year-old victim from Vista went to Modbury Hospital for the treatment of a bullet wound to her arm at 6.40pm on Thursday. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening. Eastern District detectives interviewed the woman and subsequently arrested a 40-year-old Vista man who arrived at the hospital to see the victim. He is known to the woman. Police will allege the man shot her during an altercation in a car an hour earlier at Ridgehaven. The man drove the woman to hospital and left before returning a short time later. He was charged with acts to endanger life and firearms offences and was refused bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday. The woman’s car has been seized and will be forensically examined. Four arrested over police pursuit at Christie Downs Police have arrested four teenagers after a pursuit at Christie Downs yesterday afternoon. Patrols tried to pulled over an allegedly stolen Toyota just after 5.30pm on Thursday, which sped off before turning into nearby side streets. A chase began along Main South Rd before the car’s tyres were spiked near the intersection of Bains Rd. The car then entered the incorrect side of Main South Rd and turned into Sherriffs Rd where it crashed with a police vehicle, before turning down a series of side streets. A occupant jumped out and ran off in Gurners Ln. The stolen Toyota then turned around and struck another police vehicle before stopping on Krawarri St, where the three remaining occupants were arrested. The Toyota sedan was allegedly stolen from a property in Parkside earlier in the week. No one was injured. Officers set up a cordon and with the assistance of police dog Zac and his handler located a fourth person hiding under a truck on Krawarri St. A 19-year-old man from Taperoo was charged with aggravated engaging in a police pursuit, illegal use of a motor vehicle and breach of bail. An 18-year-old man from Pennington was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and breach of bail. They were both refused bail to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today. A 16-year-old boy from Ridleyton and a 14-year-old Woodville Gardens boy were both charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle and were bailed to appear in court at a later date. Fold-up table smashes cop car A French tourist has been fined nearly $300 after a fold-up table fell off his car and smashed into a police officer’s windshield on the state’s west coast. With just a few minor cuts, the officer was lucky to escape serious injury as he was driving on Eyre Highway near Bookabie yesterday just before 2pm. The patrol car’s windscreen was completely smashed after the table, which was only being held down with elastic straps, fell off the car in front. The French tourist, 22, was fined $295 for having an insecure load. Police used the incident to remind road users to use legal weight-rated tie-down straps when loading luggage and equipmenton vehicles. Men in masks use machete to steal cash A masked man armed with a machete, helped by another man also wearing a mask and leather pants, has robbed a book store in Adelaide’s north. Police were called to the shop on Research Rd, Pooraka, just after 9.30pm on Thursday. The suspects walked into the shop and threatened staff before leaving with cash. The first man was about 152cm tall and was wearing a mask. The second man was shorter with leather pants and a mask. No one was injured.
