Warnbro local Ashlyn Mohr has been given the opportunity of a lifetime to compete on a national stage, but it comes with a hefty price tag.

The 19-year-old has been selected to represent Australia in the upcoming International Bowling Federation U21 World Championships, which will be held in Sweden in June.

Mohr is one of four female athletes selected out of a pool of 13 and says it is a “dream come true”.

She has bowled since she was two and has dominated the sport ever since, winning her first Australian title at just 10 years old.

She has attended the Australian Junior Championships since 2007 and has worn the green and gold for two years as a member of the Australian Asian Schools team.

The 19-year-old has also been selected for the Australian National Championship in Tasmania in July.

For 2022, Mohr’s total competition costs are expected to reach about $20,000. She will travel to Melbourne twice and South Australia, Sydney and Tasmania at a minimum.

With no State or national funding available for opportunities like these, she said the costs often rest solely on the athlete and their families.

“This is a huge ask and I’m hoping with the help of the community my participation can become a reality,” she said.

“My mum has created a sport-based fund me page and all donations no matter how small will help me represent my country.

“The bonus is any donation made is tax deductible and can be claimed back at tax time.”

More than $2000 had been raised towards the end of last week of her $15,000 target.
