Rockingham Flames bounce back from Friday night loss to down Giants
After losing to the Perry Lakes Hawks on Friday night, the Rockingham Flames were back on top with a 29-point victory against the Goldfields Giants.
The Perry Lakes Hawks and Rockingham Flames put on a show for round 11 of the NBL1 West, with the two teams meeting for the first time since last year’s grand final on the very same floor at Bendat Basketball Centre.
Perry Lakes dominated in the first half but Flames were right behind in incredible form to pile on 43 points in the third period.
The Hawks responded and eventually secured the night’s win with a 102-93 victory which saw the end of Rockingham’s four-game winning streak and their own run of losing the past two matches.
Perry Lakes had to overcome a triple-double from Marshall Nelson to secure the win after he produced 26 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for Rockingham.
In the absence of the Hawks’ Ryan Smith, Matt Leary dominated, putting up 20 points and a 6/8 from three-point land for Perry Lakes.
Co-captain and games record holder Ben Purser also produced 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds, with Jack Isenbarger marking his Perry Lakes debut after 68 games with Lakeside with 15 points and three long balls that connected.
Cooper Hamilton added 14 points for the Hawks, Andrew Ferguson 12 points and nine rebounds, and Lewis Thomas 11 points and eight boards.
Devondrick Walker nailed 6/16 from downtown on his way to 29 points, six rebounds and five assists for Rockingham, with Tom Jervis adding 20 points and 12 boards and Greg Hire two points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Rockingham raced to an 11-point lead on the back of scoring 13 straight points in the opening quarter, but Goldfields did well to stay in touch and trail by only four points at quarter-time and seven at half-time.
The Flames weren’t prepared to give in, putting their foot down in the third quarter and piling on 30 points to 14 to open up a 23-point lead and to be in control 80-57 by three quarter-time.
From there, Rockingham secured the 109-80 victory to improve to a 10-3 record on the season while Goldfields is now 8-5, with both teams splitting their two round 11 matchups.
The Flames shot a brilliant 55.6 per cent from the field for the game along with hitting 16/33 from three-point land, with Nelson delivering another standout performance consisting of 25 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Jervis put up 22 points, six boards and three blocks as well for Rockingham, with Walker adding 14 points and four assists, Travis Durnin 14 points, Callum Beard nine points and three rebounds, and Hire nine points, 12 boards and four assists.
Mayo Malek led the charge on a tough afternoon for the Giants with 22 points and seven rebounds, with Lafonzo Smith contributing 14 points and eight boards, Hussayn Ford 13 points and six rebounds and Damon Ballantyne 10 points and five rebounds.
