A crash in Perth’s south caused traffic mayhem for motorists and a power outage for nearby residents on Wednesday afternoon.

A car crashed in to a power pole at the intersection of Stock Road and Phoenix Road in Spearwood about 11:48am, affecting multiple lanes in all directions.

St John WA confirmed a man in his 50s was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital and a child — believed to be over the age of 10 — was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital.

WA Police suspect both people sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

More than 140 customers in Hamilton Hill beside the crash site were plunged in to darkness until Western Power crews restored power about 5:05pm.

Police and St John ambulance crews were also at the scene.

Numerous traffic lights were blacked out in the area as a result of the incident.

Motorists were advised to seek an alternative route as traffic was heavy in the area.
