Perth traffic: Fans heading to Fremantle Dockers game warned to leave early with congestion expected

Fans heading to Optus Stadium this afternoon for Fremantle’s clash against Brisbane have been urged to leave early with peak-hour traffic expected to slow travel times right down.
Bouncedown for the blockbuster is at 6.35pm, and with both teams fighting for their season it will be one of the biggest home-and-away games in Fremantle’s history.
Fans were given fair warning that event buses and direct train lines would not be running to the game for the Friday night clash that is expected to be a sellout.
A Main Roads spokesperson said that Perth motorists should brace themselves for heavier-than-usual traffic as their weekend begins.
“Gates open from 4.40pm and increased congestion along Graham Farmer Freeway and heavy foot traffic around the stadium precinct is expected,” they said.
“Motorists should allow for extra travel time especially during afternoon peak as delays are expected.
“If in the stadium precinct, be aware of heavy foot traffic and frequently stopping vehicles.
“Tow-away zones are in place – check street signs before parking.”
A win for Fremantle could help solidify their spot in finals and put them one step closer to a top-four finish, while a loss could see them in danger of missing the eight altogether.
Fans relying on public transport will need to catch the Armadale or Thornlie-Cockburn train lines, or take the Red CAT bus services running to Matagarup Bridge.
