West Australians are getting into the ghoulish spirit, dusting off their fancy dress costumes for what is being touted as WA’s biggest-ever night of Halloween partying.

Retailers say high-concept horror, pop culture madness and DIY wizardry are the go-to looks this year — and not just for trick-or-treating children.

Halloween falling on a Saturday for the first time since 2020 has given bars, venues and even Perth Zoo an excuse to throw themed parties sure to attract plenty of Freddy Kruegers, zombies and evil clowns.

From nightclub raves and bar takeovers to Halloween-themed pub quizzes, trick-or-treating at the Zoo and neighbourhood carnivals, the celebrations offer a dress-up opportunity for all ages.

Movie buffs are also getting in on the action, with heritage-listed South Perth cinema The Revival House screening a triple treat of horror films on Saturday: The Witches of Eastwick, Candyman and Scream.

The screenings are part of a five-day horror film program at The Revival House, which continues on Sunday.
