A man has been rushed to hospital under lights and sirens after being hit by a car north of Perth.

Three St John Ambulance crews responded to the call about 6.20pm on Pinjar Road near Flynn Drive in Carramar, about 35km north of the city.

The man, who looked to be in his 20s, was on foot when he was hit by a car.

He was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, arriving just after 7pm.

He is in a serious condition.

Major crash investigators are at the scene and police have asked motorists to avoid the area.
