The festive season approaches and with it, Christmas carols, as the Anglican Holy Cross Cathedral gets ready to host its annual Sing Noel event tomorrow.

As well as the usual program of carols and readings, there will be musical items from the Geraldton Choral Society and Sing Australia, with Reverend Peter Grice on the organ and the Geraldton City Band providing music.

Mr Grice, who is also helping co-ordinate the event, said everyone was very excited for the concert, which will start at 7.30pm.

“We believe that Christmas is a time of hope, and if we can encourage people with the hope of Jesus in this and other services, I’m well satisfied we’ve done our job,” he said.

“To be honest, we live in a culture where there’s not a lot of hope, and if we’ve brought more hope into the world then we can faithfully say we’ve done our jobs.”

Mr Grice said everyone was welcome to join, and there would be a supper served afterwards.

“We are asking for a gold coin donation, and we haven’t yet got a specific target in mind but there’s a few irons in the fire for where that donation will go to, so we see this as part of our gift back to the community as well,” he said.

The event comes ahead of a month of carols, with the Geraldton Carols by Candlelight Festival in Maitland Park scheduled for December 11, carols at the Greenough Heritage Settlement on December 12, and Carols at the Walkaway Holy Trinity Church on December 18.
