Inmate found unresponsive inside his cell at Hakea Prison
A prisoner has died at Hakea Prison.
The Department of Justice said the 38-year-old Aboriginal man was found unresponsive in a single cell about 10pm on Wednesday.
“Prison and medical staff provided first aid to the prisoner until paramedics arrived,” a spokeswoman said.
“Preliminary reports indicate the man may have experienced a medical episode.”
Police will prepare a report for the coroner, as is mandatory for all deaths in custody.
