Police say a white Holden Commodore sedan was travelling in an easterly direction on Great Eastern Highway, in Clackline — about 15km south-west of Northam — when it veered off the road and smashed into a tree about 11am on Sunday.
The 49-year-old male driver, who was the only person in the car, suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene.
Major Crash investigators are conducting an examination of the scene and are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online.
