Body found after fiery Geraldton crash
A FIERY car crash on the outskirts of Geraldton claimed a life in the early hours of this morning.
Major Crash officers are investigating after the body of the driver, believed to be a man aged in his 20s, was found only after the fire had been extinguished.
It’s believed when the crash was reported by passers-by, the vehicle was already alight.
The 2002 blue Holden Commodore ute slammed into a tree while travelling south on Edward Road in Bootenal, near Greenough Prison, just before 3.30am.
It’s believed formal identification of the body could take some time. It’s not known at this stage why the car veered off the road.
This latest death brings WA’s road toll so far this year to 78, including 46 fatalities in the country.
Police want to speak to anyone who saw the ute before the crash or who knows the driver’s movements in the hours leading up to his death. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
