A body believed to be that of missing free diver Matthew Phillips has been found by a swimmer at Lancelin Beach.

Police were notified of the grim discovery just after midday on Saturday, more than three weeks since the father-of-two was last seen.

A person who had been diving off a Lancelin Beach cliff discovered the body in the water.

Water police and police divers will attempt to recover the body, however marine conditions could prevent the recovery from taking place today.

Once the body has been recovered the process of identification will begin.

The father-of-two was last seen at his home in the northern coastal suburb of Sorrento on the morning of November 12.

Police launched an extensive marine search after they located his car in Lancelin and found an empty diving bag inside.

Mr Phillips’ family has been notified of the development.
