Perth bikies: Rebels bikie gang still without a club president, six weeks after the death of Jamie Ginn

The Rebels bikie gang is still without a club president — six weeks after the death of its former boss Jamie Ginn. Ginn, 50, was arrested on October 10 by the gang crime squad over drug and weapons offences and was taken to the Perth Watch House that afternoon so he could face court the following day. He was later observed having a suspected seizure in his cell and was given urgent medical attention but could not be saved. His death is not being treated as suspicious but it has since emerged there was no nurse on duty when he died. The West Australian can also reveal that an autopsy on Ginn’s body — carried out soon after the Rebels boss died — failed to shed any new light on what may have contributed to his death. Investigators had hoped to have gained a clearer indication of what caused the 50-year-old to become unresponsive and die — but the post-mortem was inconclusive. Further tests and test results are now pending. Ginn’s funeral was held last week as heavily armed officers from the gang crime squad watched on. And although police imposed a long list of rules on those attending the funeral, there were no incidents. Sources familiar with the inner workings of the Rebels have told The West the outlaw club is yet to elect a new president, leaving them with no one to formally direct club business. Ginn had only been elected to the role shortly before he died. He had taken over from Jason Dixon, after he was locked up by the gang crime squad earlier this year on drug related charges. Prior to Dixon, Karl Labrook had taken over the Rebels’ but was forced to stand aside when he was slapped with an anti-consorting notice, which prohibits him from associating with other outlaws. Labrook, who took over the reins after the assassination of long-time boss Nick Martin in December 2020, faced a Perth court this week where he pleaded not guilty to possessing $30,000 of unlawfully obtained cash and 11.22g of methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply.
