Police searching for driver who hit 19-year-old woman after exiting van on Indian Ocean Drive near Jurien Bay

Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that hit a 19-year-old woman on the notorious Indian Ocean Drive after she stepped out of a van that had been parked on the side of the road.

Police say the vehicle had been driving on the highway 4km south of Jurien Bay when it struck the woman about 5.40am.

Her injuries were so severe that she died at the scene.

Police say the vehicle that hit the woman failed to stop and continued driving north.

The crash has closed Indian Ocean Drive in both directions 6km south of Jurien Bay.

Major Crash investigators are conducting an examination of the scene and are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
