A Qantas nonstop flight from London to Perth has made an unexpected stop in WA’s north.

Flight QF10 was diverted to Karratha to refuel on Tuesday.

Passengers had chosen the direct flight specifically to avoid stopovers.

The jet was still forced to divert to Karratha about lunchtime, spending about an hour on the tarmac before taking off at 12.58pm.

According to Qantas, changing weather conditions along the 17-hour flight route meant the plane had to make the unscheduled stop.

The aircraft is due to land in Perth before 3pm.
