Grab a bucket and a mop because Perth is in for a week of wet weather.

Monday is not only a public holiday but also marks the first day of autumn and the colder weather is not playing around.

Possible storms and showers are forecast between Monday and Thursday in Perth, with the Bureau of Meteorology WA warning it could be enough to achieve the month’s average rainfall in just a few days.

“Monday has a 25 per cent chance of getting up to 15mm, and Tuesday and Wednesday has some reasonable chances of some 5 or 10mm,” Bureau senior forecaster Matt Boterhoven said.

“The average rainfall in March is around 19.7mm for Perth… so we could reach the average rainfall in the first week.”

But the wet weather isn’t unusual for the beginning of autumn.

Last March, Perth recorded 32.8mm with our wettest day on March 18.

“From time to time we can get showers and thunderstorms during autumn, it doesn’t matter if it’s the beginning or end.”

BOM recommends staying updated with the weather warnings and being prepared.
