The metropolitan area has endured a chilly start to Thursday with early risers shivering as the temperature dipped below five degrees Celsius.

Perth Airport recorded 3.6C at 7am but light winds meant the apparent — or ‘feels like’ — temperature was only one degree.

It was slightly warmer in Perth and the Swan Valley, which both reached 4.5C while in Bickley it was only 4.4C

This cold weather is in stark contrast to the record-breaking heat West Aussies experienced in June.

The State’s mean maximum temperature was 2.52 C above average, and the highest for June since Bureau of Meteorology records began.

WA’s rainfall was 66 per cent below average, the tenth-driest June on record.

Today’s temperature is forecast to reach 18C in Perth with showers expected on the weekend
