After a gorgeous sunshine-filled day on Tuesday, the wet weather has returned.

Showers hit WA’s metropolitan area and South West region early Wednesday morning, with the Perth Metro weather station in Osborne Park reporting 4.2mm of rainfall as of 8.10am.

The Bureau of Meteorology expects 5mm of rainfall to hit the city throughout the day, with showers forecast to hit coastal regions between Geraldton and Albany.

Bureau meteorologist Bob Tarr told PerthNow several cold fronts would push across the State following Tuesday’s warm weather.

“There is a chance of more showers hitting the Perth and South West throughout Wednesday afternoon, but it will be less rain than seen in the morning,” he said.

“Most of the morning rain should have already poured in the Perth metropolitan area.”

Other parts of the state, however, have not been so lucky.

“Eucla and the northern Kimberley do face a chance of storms throughout today and tomorrow.”

Strong winds are also expected to thrash Perth residents, with westerly winds between 25 to 35km/hr expected on Wednesday afternoon.

Residents in Gooseberry Hill and Swanbourne were hit by gusts of 49km/hr between 7 and 8am this morning.

Those trying to live their best island lifestyle are also being battered by the strong wind, with Garden Island and Rottnest Island both recording gusts exceeding 50km in the early hours of the morning.

The wet weather is expected to continue across the State throughout the next three days, with rain and strong winds anticipated in the Perth metropolitan and South West regions.

Friday will bring a strong chance of storms, with meteorologist Bob Tarr warning a more significant cold front will pass over the area.

“Thunderstorms are expected in WA’s South West area on Friday, with some coastal wind warnings likely to be put in place.”

It’s not all doom and gloom, however — a sunny Sunday and Monday offer residents a slight reprieve from wet weather.

The dreary forecast comes amid a spate of bad weather across Australia’s eastern coast.

Severe thunderstorms ripped through south-east Queensland and Victoria earlier this week, with more than 85,000 houses left without power.

Those in Victoria faced 35mm on rainfall in one day, with wind gusts reaching speeds up to 100km/hour.
