Cameras have been installed on the South Perth foreshore after a young tall tree at Lake Douglas was seemingly poisoned.

City of South Perth Residents Association chair Cecilia Brooke said it appeared the tree had been poisoned and a mobile camera was now in place.

The affected tree is within 20m of the trees that the City of South Perth council voted earlier this week to remove.

The council backed a motion from Cr Nic Coveney to remove six juvenile trees at Lake Douglas after 12 residents complained they would grow to block their “million-dollar views”.

As part of the motion, the council will put aside $30,000 in its mid-year budget to plant 130sqm of shrub nearby to make up the canopy cover and will work on a policy for planting trees on public land.

PerthNow has contacted the City of South Perth for comment.
