Perth Lynx have achieved their goal of moving all of their home matches from Bendat Basketball Centre to Perth High Performance centre in a move which WNBL CEO Jennie Sager has declared is a sign of how important it is to improve how the sport looks into the future.

The Lynx played three games at PHPC last season and received rave reviews from players, coaches and fans amid the upgraded facilities and technology.

The club was hoping to play all games at PHPC this season but needed to strike a financial deal to make that possible.

Sager told The West Australian the standard of competition had always been high throughout the WNBL and it was vital the league provide clubs and players with the facilities, promotion and image that they deserve.

“Our goal is to up-level the league, the clubs and the players. Giving them a home at the High Performance Centre speaks volumes. I think the athletes will be really happy there,” Sager said.

The Game AFL 2025

“The WNBL has a big, bold vision for this season and beyond, as do our clubs. I think you’ll really see a different picture of the league this year.

“Growing awareness for the league, the clubs and players is a major area for us. That comes down to the profile of the players. We have incredible elite talent on each team. Getting people familiar with these players and building that connection to the fans is really important. That’s a key pillar for us this year.”

Sager has spent months questioning what needs to change within the WNBL and addressed a key Lynx gripe by scheduling them at home in the final round instead of sending them on a lengthy road trip. The league hasn’t announced starting times for games as they attempt to navigate the three-hour time difference between Perth and the eastern states over summer.

The WNBL has also used Tuesday night as a key timeslot with Sager saying it provided a unique opportunity.

“We wanted to avoid clashes with NBL and avoid clashes with other sporting codes,” she said.

“What we don’t want to do is put fans in a position to have to choose between the men’s games and the women’s games. Avoiding clashes was a huge priority, and also packing as many games as we can into the weekend so it’s easier for fans to go to those games. We needed to find a weeknigh,t and Tuesday night was that clear space.”
