Perth have signed highly touted local product Corey Shervill as their fourth and final development player for the upcoming NBL season.

The forward was expected to return to the USA for his senior year at NCAA division two college St Edward’s but a video released by the Wildcats showed Shervill going up against new signing Todd Blanchfield for the first day of preseason.

“It’s an exciting opportunity. With so much uncertainty this year, it’s nice to have something locked in and know what I’m doing,” Shervill said in a press release confirming the signing.

“As a player, my main strength is my versatility. I can step out, shoot the three and also score inside, as well as get after rebounds.

“I’m here to develop, and I’m looking forward to just being around the culture, being a sponge and learning as much as I can from the other guys and coaches.”

Shervill joins Luke Travers, Taylor Britt and Andrew Ferguson as development players for NBL21 which will likely start in mid January.

Shervill has been a consistent contributor to the Hilltoppers averaging 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in his junior year in Austin, while shooting 36 per cent from deep.

The 22-year-old, Ferguson and Illawarra’s Daniel Grida all played junior basketball together at Lakeside, with the first two reuniting for this year’s West Coast Classic.

Shervill played three games with the Lightning in 2020 averaging almost 22.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 42 per cent from three.

The 201 cm player managed 28 points and 10 rebounds against Rockingham during The West Australian’s coverage of the WCC, you can watch the full highlights in the window above.

The Wildcats currently have two full contract roster spots remaining.
