The Geelong Venom's hopes of a maiden WNBL title have been boosted with Opal Maddy Rocci signing with the club.

Rocci was unveiled as Geelong's newest recruit on Tuesday, which will reunite her with coach Cheryl Chambers after the pair won the league's championship in 2024 with the Southside Melbourne Flyers.

The 27-year-old will be looking to continue her rise after a stellar 2025-26 campaign with the Flyers, which earned her an Opals call-up and a training camp contract with the WNBA's Toronto Tempo.

She will also add further depth to Geelong's roster with two-time league champion Bec Cole, rising star Lilly Rotunno, and Alex Sharp all on their books for next season.

"I know what she's capable of - I've watched her win championships, and I've seen first-hand the work she puts in behind the scenes to get there," Chambers said.

"As a point guard, she controls the game in a way that makes everyone around her better. Her vision, her ability to get into the paint and create.

"We're building something very exciting here in Geelong, and having Maddy at the helm of it is a very significant statement of intent."

Rocci's signature also comes after Shyla Heal activated a European out clause to leave Geelong, and guard Jaz Shelley departed the club to join the Sydney Flames.

Elsewhere in free agency, the Perth Lynx have re-signed star guard Alex Ciabattoni after her stand-out season helped the club reach the grand final.

It is a huge re-signing for coach Ryan Petrik's team after Ciabattoni averaged 15.1 points last season and earned a spot on the All-WNBL Second Team.

Ciabattoni will join Anneli Maley as the only other confirmed signature on Perth's roster after Opal Ally Wilson and co-captain Amy Atwell departed the club on Monday.

"This past season was incredibly special, both personally and as a team," Ciabattoni said.

"The environment at the Lynx, the belief from the coaches, and the connection within the group made it such a rewarding year.

"I'm hungry to keep building on that, and I can't wait to get back on court with the team for WNBL27."
