WA all-rounder Cam Green went down with a fresh injury concern in Australia’s One-Day International victory over South Africa last night.

In what was slated to be his return to the bowling crease after dealing with a period of shoulder soreness, Green did not field in the second innings after an eventful innings with the bat as his side avoided a series whitewash with a rain-affected win in Potchefstroom.

Left felled after being struck in the groin by a full toss from South Africa’s all-rounder Corbin Bosch, Green responded by smashing the next delivery he faced for six.

But his attempt to repeat the trick from the next ball both cost him his wicket and left him hurt, with the all-rounder instantly grabbing at his side as Proteas wicketkeeper Quinton De Kock took a catch to dismiss him for 23.

After Australia’s 45-run win on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method — which came only nine days before the scheduled start of the Test series — captain Mitch Marsh said he was not sure of the prognosis for either Green or Matthew Renshaw, who copped a blow to the wrist while fielding.

“I sound like a footy coach here, but I actually haven’t seen them,” Marsh said.

“I know Renners got a knock on the wrist and Greeny, after being hit, I’m not too sure what was going on there.

“Hopefully, both are OK.

“(Green) was locked in to bowl a few overs today, he had a nice build.

“It would’ve been nice for him to have a bowl but it wasn’t meant to be, I am sure it won’t affect his prep too much, hopefully.”

The pair will have just over a week to recover if they are to take their places for the first Test of Australia’s hugely-anticipated three-game series against the Proteas, which starts in Durban on October 9.

WA’s Josh Inglis suffered a broken finger in the first fixture in the ODI series and has returned to Perth to receive treatment.
