Fremantle legends from far and wide have thrown their full support behind the Dockers’ maiden flag charge as they chase immortality against Brisbane.
As Fremantle prepare for just their second grand final in history, the players from their past will be riding the wave of emotions as they hope 32 years of pain will finally come to an end.
“Sonny here from the streets of Paris, who would have thought?,” Michael Walters said.
“I just wanted to jump on here to say a quick congratulations to the Fremantle Dockers. What you’ve been able to achieve this year is nothing short of amazing.
“The way you all gel together and play together as a team, packed out Optus Stadium week after week in unbelievable.”
Plenty of former players will be joining the fans in the trek across the Nullarbor, including Doig Medal winner Dale Kickett who has full confidence in the group.
“I just wanted to say to the team that the rest of us supporters are on our way over to support you and we will support you until the end,” he said.
“For the grand final I don’t think you need luck, you know what to do, get it done, go Freo.”
Nick Suban, Graham Polak, Garrick Ibbotson, Scott Watters and Roger Hayden were among a host of other names to lend their support, with Paul Hasleby echoing Andrew Brayshaw’s note that the first 23 players to win a flag for Freo will be immortal.
“Super proud of what you’ve achieved so far and to see all the supporters get behind you has been one of the great things in my life,” he said.
“One more step go to the MCG beat the Brisbane Lions and make yourselves immortals, go Freo.”
