Fremantle are poised to recall Sean Darcy to their side for Sunday’s clash with St Kilda at Optus Stadium.

The ruckman — who was managed out of last week’s win over Essendon — has been added to the extended bench for a duel with Rowan Marshall.

It means he is likely to resume his highly-scrutinised partnership with Luke Jackson in the ruck.

Fremantle has not named any outs from the side that won their fifth straight match last Thursday.

Versatile tall Oscar McDonald — who returned to defence for Peel Thunder at the weekend after a stint forward earlier in the season — has been added to the extended bench, along with breakout small forward Isaiah Dudley.

Jaeger O’Meara, Michael Walters and Brandon Walker are all in the mix to spend another week with the Thunder and play in Saturday evening’s clash with West Perth at Arena Joondalup.

Two-time Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe started his first game of the season last week, but was substituted out of the clash after three quarters. He is on the extended bench and could resume his role as the starting sub.

Fremantle’s ruck pairing has been heavily scrutinised this season. Adding to the intrigue around Jackson and Darcy is that both have been linked to a move away from the Dockers at the end of the season.

Channel 7’s Ryan Daniels reported earlier this week that Essendon were one of the Victorian clubs with their eyes on Darcy for next season.

Former Richmond champion Matthew Richardson has joined the critics of the dual ruck approach and said it is an issue that won’t go away for the club.

“Do they go with the two ruckmen in Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson or just the one?,” Richardson wrote in his exclusive column for The Nightly.

“I don’t think it can be both from what I saw last week. To me it simply must be Jackson. With Patrick Voss, Jye Amiss and Josh Treacy playing forward Freo looks too top heavy with Darcy and Jackson playing as well.

“Jackson was simply outstanding in the air and on the ground against Essendon. It may have been his best game ever. It appears he loves to ruck 80 per cent of his game time which he wouldn’t get with Darcy playing as well.”

After their clash with the Saints, the Dockers also take on in-form ruck Brodie Grundy, former Docker Lloyd Meek and in-form West Australian Darcy Cameron.

Meanwhile, St Kilda will leave defender Jimmy Webster at home under a management program, but have added former Docker Liam Henry and fellow West Australian Jack Carroll to their squad.

Hugo Garcia — the young midfielder who was lambasted by coach Ross Lyon during a match earlier this season — and back-up ruckman Harry Boyd have also been added.

Boyd could be used to support Marshall in his clash with Jackson and Darcy.
