Fremantle Dockers reveal why assistant Josh Carr, charged over alleged quarantine breaches, could leave home

Confined Dockers assistant Josh Carr — who is facing allegations he breached COVID-19 quarantine three times — was spotted out and about Saturday, in a trip the club says was police approved. The former AFL hardnut was part of a group of Fremantle players and officials who returned from the Gold Coast last Sunday with strict orders to quarantine for 14-days. Attending the club was his only exemption. WA Police later said they would be alleging Carr travelled to “a number of locations” not connected to club activities and let unauthorised people into his house. He was subsequently banned from attending the club’s next two games, and confined to his home with no exceptions. However The West Australian snapped Carr leaving his property about 11.15am on Saturday, at the same time another man — believed to be his brother Matthew — arrived to collect his three children. With his mask on — but worn under his nose — Carr returned around 40 minutes later. A Fremantle Dockers spokesperson said Carr had been given permission to attend a drive-through COVID testing clinic. “I’ve spoken to Josh. He went to get a COVID test as he has police approval to. He went straight home,” he said. When contacted by The West Australian, WA Police said they had no knowledge of the trip and weren’t investigating further. Fremantle chief executive Simon Garlick earlier said Carr had been “very apologetic and remorseful” following the previous breaches. They said Carr would be stood down from coaching duties and was not expected to coach remotely, while it worked with the AFL's integrity department to determine any further action. It came after first-year Docker player Brandon Walker was also fined for a quarantine breach after he took his dog for a walk after training on Tuesday. Mr Garlick said players and staff were given multiple reminders about adhering to the strict directions orders. “We appreciate and understand the pressures that quarantine measures can place on individuals, however there is no excuse,” Garlick said. “We are frustrated and disappointed by his actions and concerned about the negative impact they could have on the very positive relationships we’ve maintained with WA Police, the State Government and the AFL throughout the course of the pandemic.”
