Fremantle set to re-sign utility Oscar McDonald, wingman Jeremy Sharp but Neil Erasmus future unclear

Fremantle are set to lock away utility Oscar McDonald and wingman Jeremy Sharp as they look to bed down depth in their push for a maiden premiership. The West Australian understands the Dockers will re-sign McDonald on a one-year deal, while Sharp is set to ink a two-year extension, with both to be upgraded from the rookie list. It comes as the club also has a three-year offer on the table for midfielder Neil Erasmus, who is weighing up interest from rival clubs including the Western Bulldogs and West Coast. Fremantle will have three spots open on their list as soon as their season ends because of the retirements of dual Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe as well as club great Michael Walters and Quinton Narkle. McDonald has played only seven games this season but is viewed as important depth both as a backman and a forward-ruck, as the club continues to develop the likes of Hugh Davies, Charlie Nicholls and Ollie Murphy. The 29-year-old joined the Dockers in 2023 as a delisted free agent on a two-year deal after stints at Carlton and Melbourne, playing only one game last year because of a serious knee injury. Sharp, 24, was also recruited in 2023 but through the pre-season supplemental selection period on a two-year contract and has played 37 games for the Dockers since crossing from the Suns. The wingman lost his place in Fremantle’s side in round 15 but looms as a potential inclusion for their elimination final against Gold Coast to replace Corey Wagner, who will miss the rest of the season with a pectoral injury. Fremantle’s biggest contract call looms around first-round draftee Erasmus, who is looking to lock down a spot in their best side this finals series. Erasmus has a deal to extend until the end of 2028 from Fremantle but is yet to sign as he considers his future. The Bulldogs are favoured to land the midfielder should he decide to leave, but the Eagles also have shown interest in the 21-year-old Subiaco product. Out-of-favour midfielder Will Brodie is tipped to join Port Adelaide at the end of the season despite having another year to run on his contract, as the Docker looks for more senior opportunities. Brodie has not played since round seven 2023 despite featuring in all 24 games for the Dockers the year before after being recruited from Gold Coast.
