Pat Voss has revealed the toll of being involved in last weekend’s scuffle against Brisbane, with the Dockers talisman nursing a huge cut that’s forced him to take antibiotics.
Lions players took exception to Voss diving in to tackle Darcy Gardiner early in the third term of Fremantle’s win at the Gabba. Noah Answerth, Harris Andrews and Ty Gallop all took turns dragging the Freo forward away from Gardiner and remonstrating with him while he was on the turf.
Voss said the aftermath of being forcefully dragged and pulled by his guernsey had been painful.
“I’m not sure what happened there. A couple of them saw red, apparently,” Voss said on Triple M.
“I was on the ground and was sort of like, ‘gee whizz, wrap it up here’.
“I’ve actually got a massive cut under my armpit from ‘old mate’ pulling my jumper.
“I’m taking antibiotics and putting cream on it every day. It’s pretty bad.”
Voss overcame the drama of the scuffle to emerge as one of Fremantle’s most prominent performers in the win, booting four goals and pulling in a career-best eight marks.
It continued a strong season for the former Bomber, who has thrived in his role in the Dockers’ stacked forward line.
Voss, Josh Treacy and Jye Amiss have combined for 78 goals this season - behind only Hawthorn’s Jack Gunston, Nick Watson and Mitch Lewis (85) among trios in the competition.
Voss said he was thrilled and grateful to be part of the ladder-leading club as they look to make history later this year.
“I do find myself pinching myself so often... even in terms of playing in one of the top teams in the competition,” he said.
“I feel so supported by the Fremantle Army, and it’s good to have your own supporters on your back when it feels like other supporters aren’t all cheering for you.”
Voss also took time to have a chuckle at an image from a back page of The West Australian’s from last month, depicting him as The Joker.
“It doesn’t look too bad,” he said.
