Fremantle fan favourite Patrick Voss is set to face scrutiny for a dangerous tackle on Saints stopper Marcus Windhager.

A free kick was paid against Voss after Windhager was thrown to the turf with force and appeared to hit his head on the ground at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Windhager was ordered off the ground to do a head injury assessment, following two incidents within a few minutes during the third quarter.

In a positive sign for all players, the 22-year-old was able to return to the game after passing the boundary-side test.

Voss earlier this season served a three-match ban for a hit on Richmond’s Nick Vlastuin.

Earlier, Windhager was awarded a free kick for a dangerous tackle against star forward Shai Bolton deep in the pocket of Fremantle’s forward 50.

The back-to-back incidents involving Windhager occurred just moments after Dockers defender Karl Worner copped heavy contact in a marking contest.

Worner was awarded a 50-metre penalty after being collected by Saints forward Mitch Owens on the wing, sparking a push-and-shove between opposing players.

The 23-year-old, who has a troubling history of head knocks, was thankfully able to remain out on the field, with his body taking the majority of the impact.

It’s been a bruising contest between the Dockers and Saints so far, with Fremantle spearhead Josh Treacy also copping a knee to the ribs in a bruising collision with St Kilda defender Alix Tauru earlier in the game.
