AFL grand final: Joel Selwood and Jonathan Brown locked in as premiership cup presenters

Joel Selwood has been up on stage for all four of Geelong’s premierships this century - and he’ll be there again should the Cats secure another trophy on Saturday.

The 355-game AFL great has been locked in as the club’s premiership cup presenter, on hand to pass the precious silverware to his former coach Chris Scott and the man who succeeded him as captain in Patrick Dangerfield.

Selwood was the most recent Geelong skipper to hold the cup aloft when he saluted in what would be the final match of his career in the 2022 decider.

The six-time All-Australian said he was “extremely honoured” to take on the role of presenting the trophy in the case of a Cats victory.

“This club holds a special place in my heart and has been such a big part of my life,” he said.

“It’s been a joy to watch the club continue to chase greatness every year, with so many of the players I’ve played alongside continuing to challenge in pursuit of football’s ultimate prize.

“I wish the players, staff, members and supporters all the best for Saturday, enjoy the moment and embrace the opportunity.”

Three-time Brisbane premiership forward Jonathan Brown will do the presenting honours if the Lions prevail.

Brown was informed of the role by his former coach Leigh Matthews on Monday, with the latter handing the cup to Chris Fagan, Lachie Neale, Harris Andrews and Dayne Zorko last year when Brisbane smashed Sydney in the decider.
