Trainer Luke Fernie is banking on the booking of in-form jockey Clint Johnston-Porter and a light weight to boost Iseered Iseered’s chances in Saturday’s Miss Andretti Stakes at Ascot.

The promising sprinter returns after luckless runs in the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) and Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in November.

He was blocked for clear running in the straight when sixth, beaten just over two lengths, to Elite Street in the Colonel Reeves and 10th to Graceful Girl in the Winterbottom.

Johnston-Porter, the most in-form jockey in WA at the moment, will ride Iseered Iseered for the first time in the Miss Andretti (1100m).

The Safeguard gelding is on the 54kg minimum, but weights will be raised after trainer Neville Parnham scratched the 61kg topweight Indian Pacific.

Iseered Iseered flashed potential with a hat-trick of Belmont Park wins last winter, including the $100,000 Jolly Beggar Stakes (1000m) and $100,00 Nicopolis Stakes (1200m).

“He had a little break and he’s ready to go again,” Fernie said.

“It looked like he was going to play a part in the finish in those two races during the carnival, but he was stiff both times.

“It would have been nice to see how he measured up against the better ones, but this is a cracking race so we’ll see how he goes.

“Dropping down to 54 is a big thing. Hopefully we can get a result.”

A winner at six of 12 starts, Iseered Iseered will also tackle the Scenic Blast Stakes (1200m) on January 29 and possibly the Pinjarra Classic (1300m) next month.

“I’d like to try him at 1300 and 1400,” Fernie said.

Fernie will also start veteran sprinter Mervyn in the Miss Andretti, but is yet to confirm a rider.

Heavyweight hoop Brad Rawiller rode the eight-year-old when he ran third to Miss Conteki in the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m) on January 1.

“He does his own thing and he’ll certainly be running them along in front,” Fernie said.

Champion jockey William Pike has picked up the ride on boom sprinter Clairvoyance in her much-anticipated return in the Miss Andretti.

Pike replaces Clairvoyance’s regular rider Chris Parnham, who has elected to stay on Summer Scorcher winner Miss Conteki.

Meanwhile, Luke Fernie’s smart three-year-old Spin The Knife is bound for the $200,000 Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m) at Pinjarra on February 5.

“He’ll resume in an 1100 on Saturday week and then go to the Magic Millions,” Fernie said.

Fernie said former interstate sprinter Outrageous, who ran a strong fifth in the Winterbottom, will join Iseered Iseered in the Scenic Blast Stakes.
