NBL 2021: Premier Dominic Perrottet nails three-pointer on first attempt as he is unveiled as Kings and Flames No.1 fan

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet went all Steph Curry on the Sydney Kings and Flames on Tuesday as he was officially unveiled as both teams’ No.1 ticket holder for the upcoming NBL and WNBL seasons. With the full squads from the Kings and Flames watching on, Perrottet drained his first shot – a long-range bomb from three, just like Curry reguarly does for the NBA’s benchmark team the Golden State Warriors. WATCH THE VIDEO IN THE PLAYER ABOVE The impressive shot sparked wild celebrations as Kings officials joked that Perrottet would look good in a Kings singlet as a handy 193cm player. Unfortunately, the Premier will be too busy to play basketball, but his induction as the Kings and Flames’ No.1 ticket holder is a further endorsement that Sydney is the Hoops Capital of Australia. Start Your Free Trial > Perrottet will be allocated an honorary #46 Jersey (the 46th Premier). “I’m thrilled to have finally been recruited by the Sydney Kings, sadly my schedule means I will be unavailable for a playing role but I’m proud to be No.1 ticket holder,” Perrottet said. “My entire family has a great passion for basketball and are huge Kings and Flames fans. I feel both teams are on the verge of terrific seasons. “I love basketball, it‘s a great sport. My girls play and it’s in the family. I loved it as a kid growing up, played as a kid. Love the NBL, love the NBA and it’s a huge passion of mine. “It’s been growing, particularly with younger people, and particular young girls. Our way in Castle Hill, they’ve expanded the courts. In terms of young people playing basketball, it’s going through the roof. “If I can promote it and encourage more young people to get involved I will.” Perrottet’s support extends to the WNBL and the Sydney Flames where, as No.1 ticket holder, he will be assisted by three of his daughters. Charlotte, Amelia and Annabelle, all big basketball fans and will wear numbers 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Kings and Flames owner and chairman Paul Smith said it was and honour for the club to have the support of the Premier. “To have the Premier show his support for professional men’s and women’s basketball in Sydney in such a meaningful way is something we are very proud of,” Smith said. “Sydney is rallying around our ‘Two Teams, One Club’ philosophy and the ability to support both men’s and women’s basketball. “Basketball continues to grow in popularity in Sydney. The demand for court time far outstrips supply and driveways all over Sydney have become the workout courts for thousands of young Sydneysiders.”
