Perth Glory star Tom Lawrence is set to don the armband for the upcoming A-League Men’s season, with the former Derby County skipper named the club’s sole captain for 2026-27.

It comes as midfielder and former Most Glorious Player-winner Isobel Dalton will captain their A-League women’s side for the third consecutive year.

The West Australian understands Lawrence’s knee issue, which forced him off at half-time of their final pre-season hit-out on Saturday, is not as serious as initially feared.

Lawrence, who signed a two-year extension in the off-season, limped off the field at half-time of Perth’s 2-0 win over the WA State side, but his injury is understood to have been mere bruising.

The Manchester United academy graduate and ex-Rangers forward starred for Perth in his first A-League season before injury and was announced as the club’s captain at their season Launch and 30th anniversary event at WA Museum Boola Bardip on Tuesday night.

Prior to his arrival in Perth, Lawrence made more than 400 senior appearances in the UK and played 23 times for the Welsh national team.

It comes after former co-captain Adam Taggart and Scott Wootton both departed the club in the off-season.

Dalton battled injury last season, but was a permanent fixture in Glory’s midfield when fit and should move into the club’s top 10 for A-League Women appearances this season.

Glory CEO Ben Leaver said Lawrence and Dalton would provide excellent leadership on and off the field.

“They are players who are highly respected by their teammates and demonstrate the attributes every squad needs to be successful.

“We are confident that both of our squads will enjoy strong seasons this year and Tom and Izzy will play key roles in driving standards in their respective playing groups, while also representing this proud club superbly off the field.”

Both Glory sides begin their A-League campaigns on Saturday, with the women travelling to take on Newcastle Jets at 1pm and the men are away to Macarthur FC at 2pm.
