PSA footy Scotch College preview: Coen Livingstone, Daniel Curtin, Bailey Banfield, Jett Sibosado and more

PSA footy powerhouse will be aiming for a hat-trick of Alcock Cup titles under coach Steve Malaxos when their new season gets underway after an opening-round bye this weekend. Sixteen players from last year’s premiership will be back again but three of their top-end midfield talents including first-round draft fancy Elijah Hewett and joint fairest-and-best winners from last year in Lewis Crump and Max Mumme. “We should be quite good, I think there’s about 16 players in our squad who tasted first XVIII footy last year including 12 who were regulars,” Malaxos said. “We’ve got a couple of new boys into the school and some Year 10s from last year who look ready to take the next step.” Key-position jet Daniel Curtin, a 2023 draft fancy, is expected to miss the start of the season after a dislocated knee cap playing for Claremont colts last week. But there’s still a lot of exciting players at Scotch’s disposal including State 18s tall Coen Livingstone, a 197cm ruck from York. Livingstone, the nephew of Hawthorn champion Chance Bateman, is part of West Coast’s Next Generation Academy. One newcomer to the school is 16-year-old Subiaco product Oscar Dees, who’s enjoyed a bright start to the season in WAFL colts, while son of a gun Bailey Banfield recently made his colts debut for Claremont after getting blooded in the PSA as a Year 10 last season. Fellow Tiger Jett Sibosado is a classy forward/half-back who’s part of the Fremantle NGA’s Stephen Hill Under-17s Squad. Curtin and Livingstone are the school’s State 18s representative, while Hugh Boxshall and Jaxon Douglas both made the 16s. Scotch have a bye first round before starting their season at home to Christ Church the following Saturday. Daniel Curtin: A promising key-position talent who’s capable at slotting in at both ends of the ground. Currently sidelined but there’s hopes he won’t be out for too long. Bailey Banfield: The son of dual West Coast premiership player Drew made his WAFL colts debut for Claremont in round one and is a tough defender/midfielder.
