Eddie Jones reportedly completes move to take over Japan in final twist of the knife to Rugby Australia

Eddie Jones is set to return to Japan as the country’s national team coach, the job he denied interviewing for during the World Cup. Various reports on Sunday suggest Jones has won the race to takeover Japan for a second time, beating out South Africa’s Frans Ludeke after a second interview on Thursday. It was revealed during the World Cup that Jones had reportedly taken meetings with the Japan Rugby Football Union in August before the Wallabies’ disastrous campaign where they failed to make it out of the group for the first time in history. Jones vehemently denied the accusations more than 15 times right up until the moment he officially resigned as head coach back in October. While Jones’ move is not official it is expected to be ratified in a press conference on December 13. He may not be the only Ex-Wallaby to abandon home shores with Japanese outlet Sponichi reporting former Wallabies general manager Chris Webb also flew to Japan and could be part of Jones’ team. Sponichi also shed light on how the secret meetings between Japan and Jones unfolded. “Regarding the selection of the next head coach, Japan Association President Masato Tsuchida, who has a close relationship with Jones, led the return and made a secret offer to Jones, who had been Australia’s coach this spring,” the website said. “Final interviews were held with the two finalists in Tokyo on the 7th. As originally planned, Mr Jones was selected.” Jones was an assistant with Japan in 2006 before becoming head coach in 2012 and led the Cherry Blossoms in the 2015 World Cup where they scored a famous win over South Africa.
