Ethan Cook outlasted Austin Vos in the battle of friends and State League teammates to take out the men’s event at the WA State Grass Court Championships.

The Hensman Park duo needed a deciding set to be split in the final, with Cook prevailing 7-6 4-6 6-3 to secure the Clive Wilderspin Trophy.

A crucial break at 4-3 in the third set helped Cook shrug off his mate and ultimately convert on a third match point for the victory.

It came as Shanelle Iaconi was moved to tears after a dominant second set punctuated a 7-5 6-1 triumph over Ksenija Vujacic to snare the Lesley Hunt Trophy as women’s champion.

In a match of two parts, Iaconi dropped the opening five games before a stunning form turnaround to snare 13 of the next 14.
