Swan Districts have managed to finish their season on a winning note, cruising to a 25-point win over East Fremantle at The Good Grocer Park.

In the only match of the round without any implications on the make-up of the top five, Swans led for the entirety of the day on their way to a 15.11 (101) to 11.10 (76) victory which made a certainty of an eighth-placed finish.

The winners were best served by their bookends, with Caleb Ernst booting a career-best five goals and Brandon Erceg (19 disposals, 14 marks) proving impassable pass in defence.

Meanwhile, ball-winners Jesse Turner (41 disposals) and Clint Hinchliffe (26 disposals) applied the final touches to fine seasons by having plenty of influence both at stoppages and around the ground.

In his 150th and final appearance for the Sharks, stalwart Jarrad Jansen was sent forward and played a lone hand with four goals — doubling the two had managed across the first 17 games of the season.

His 2023 premiership teammate Alex Montauban contributed one major before heading into WAFL retirement alongside Jansen and midfielder Tom Joyce, who has not featured since suffering a concussion last month.

The Game AFL Finals 2026

East Fremantle closed out an injury-riddled season on a nine-game losing streak, with a ninth-placed finish their worst since ending the 2018 season at the foot of the ladder.

Swans made the early running with a five-goal to two first term and managed to produce near-instant responses whenever the Sharks threatened to gather any momentum throughout the remainder of the day.

Behind by 31 points at the final break, East Fremantle attacked the start of the final term with plenty of verve but were unable to capitalise on their dominance by eating into their margin.

And they were made to pay when Leigh Kohlmann capitalised on a lace-out delivery from Hinchcliffe to slot a goal which all but made a certainty of the result.

Sandover Medal hopeful Jack Cleaver will not notch any votes from the final game of the season after withdrawing late due to a calf concern, while Turner might have bolstered his hopes for the WAFL’s top individual honour with another prolific display.
