AFL yet to complete investigation into West Coast Eagle Liam Ryan two weeks after street fight vision emerges

The AFL are still yet to complete their investigation into West Coast star Liam Ryan after footage of the premiership forward involved in a street fight went viral on social media more than two weeks ago. The 28-year-old was filmed in a brawl in Fremantle after attending the Juicy Fest music festival on January 15, promoting the league’s integrity unit and the Eagles to launch probes into the vision. The West understands the club have completed their enquiries into the incident but are waiting for the AFL to finalise theirs before they could provide a statement. The AFL said in a statement it was continuing their enquiries and would provide an update when they could. The West understands Ryan had not been drinking and was leaving the event with his partner when the altercation broke out, with the footballer believed to have claimed he felt his partner was under threat before violence escalated. West Coast released a statement on Friday, January 17 — just days after the incident — confirming they were aware of the vision circulating on social media. “The club has advised the AFL Integrity Unit,” the statement read. “Liam and his partner Evana are safe, and Liam will continue with pre-season training on Friday morning. “The club is working to gather all the information, will support Liam throughout this process and will make no further comment at this time.” Ryan has since returned to training with teammates and was a standout in several match simulations in the past fortnight. The All-Australian forward is set to represent the Indigenous All Stars against Fremantle at Optus Stadium on February 15. Ryan signed a two-year contract extension last year tying him to the club until the end of 2026. It comes as Richmond star Noah Balta pleaded guilty to assault in court on Thursday after an incident near the NSW and Victoria border late on December 30. It emerged days after the incident the premiership defender was involved in an altercation at a pub in the town of Mulwala that resulted in a man being taken to hospital with lacerations to his head. Richmond handed down an initial suspension of four matches and two pre-season games for Balta less than two weeks after the incident. But the AFL will not make any comment on Balta until after the court proceedings are finished.
