VideoMatt Rowell from Gold Coast has secured the 2025 Brownlow Medal with an eight-vote lead and only two rounds remaining.

West Coast have claimed one more unwanted record in a year to forget for West Coast, the club has polled the lowest amount of Brownlow Medal votes by a club in a single season.

The Eagles mustered just 12 votes as a collective on Monday night, breaking the existing AFL record of 15 that they set in their two-win campaign in 2022.

Half of West Coast’s votes came from their sole win of the year against St Kilda in round 10, with rising superstar Harley Reid awarded one, defender-turned-midfielder Brady Hough two and small forward Liam Ryan the three for two goals and 14 touches.

The club’s first vote of the night came from young midfielder Elijah Hewett in the narrow defeat to Essendon in round six.

Ryan Maric also earned a vote in round eight, but the Eagles failed to receive a vote in round nine despite a competitive two-point defeat to fellow battlers Richmond at the home of footy.

Liam Baker polled his first votes as an Eagle in round 16 against Collingwood with two before Reid closed out the club’s dismal count with one vote in round 18 against Port Adelaide and one in round 19 in the Tigers rematch.

West Coast’s combined tally ended up being less than one-third of the individual total of Brownlow winner Matt Rowell, who polled a whopping 39 votes to win from Nick Daicos, who collected 32.

Andrew Brayshaw was the star of Fremantle’s Brownlow show, matching the front-runners for the first half of the season before ultimately finishing fifth with 26.

Caleb Serong was just one vote behind Brayshaw, while Luke Jackson polled strongly with a career-high 17 votes.
