West Coast star Harley Reid has kept a copy of The West Australian’s front page — after he pulled the middle finger at a Brisbane fan — on his fridge.

Reid took to Instagram to share his post-workout protein shake recipe as part of a sponsorship arrangement, but eagle-eyed viewers noticed the newspaper cut-out on the fridge behind him.

On display in his kitchen is this newspaper’s front page from March 24 with the headline ‘Golden Eagle flips the bird’ after the 20-year-old had a cheeky reply to a Brisbane Lions heckler in their round three clash.

Reid was issued a please explain and fined $1000 by the AFL for his gesture, while Reid lit up social media after briefly changing his Instagram profile picture of Ben Cousins giving the one finger salute to a camera in his playing days.

“We try to bash the theatre out of this game sometimes, don’t we?” Andrew McQualter said post-match.

“He’s just having a bit of fun. Sometimes that’s good for the game, I think.”

It also prompted Puma to reveal him signing the longest-ever local athlete deal, with a cheeky social media video with two hands counting to six, bookended by two middle finger references.

Reid has been on a number of front and back pages since being linked to the West Coast ahead of going as the number one pick in the 2023 draft, with his on-field performances only adding to the theatre.

Last year, he picked out his depiction of the Boss Baby from the 2017 film as his favourite artwork and even made his back page with declaring “I lover Perth” in a fun moment at last year’s Brownlow.
