One of London’s best-known landmarks is being transformed into a luxury hotel, and now we know a little more about what will be waiting inside.

The Admiral’s Mess, an intimate 60-seat bar, is set to open inside the new Waldorf Astoria London — Admiralty Arch, overlooking The Mall and opposite Buckingham Palace.

The bar will be operated by Inception Group, the London hospitality company responsible for some of the city’s more theatrical drinking spots, including the Victorian-inspired Mr Fogg’s bars and Cahoots, which re-creates a 1940s underground station.

While details about what guests can expect from The Admiral’s Mess remain fairly limited, Inception Group says it has created a completely new concept designed specifically for the historic setting.

It will be one of several food and drink venues taking shape inside the Admiralty Arch, which is being restored and transformed into a 114-room Waldorf Astoria hotel.

British chef Clare Smyth, whose London restaurant Core holds three Michelin stars, will oversee Coreus, while French chef Daniel Boulud will bring Cafe Boulud to the property.

The hotel will also feature rooms, suites and residences, along with a ballroom for up to 500 guests.

Built in the early 20th century as a memorial to Queen Victoria, Admiralty Arch sits at the end of The Mall, forming the grand gateway between Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace.
