They don’t do anything by halves at Berkeley River Lodge, a remote luxury resort set on the pristine north-east Kimberley coast.

After a 45-minute scenic charter flight transfer from Darwin, next season’s guests will be met on the resort’s outback airstrip with a red carpet and glasses of Bollinger champagne.

The partnership with Bollinger is one of several new additions to the five-night all-inclusive stay.

WA Showcase with Ampersand Estates

As you can read in my story in tomorrow’s Travel in the Sunday Times, the dining experiences at the resort bring the wow factor. New for next season is a formal evening with a six-course chef’s degustation, designed to match wines from award-winning South West WA winery Ampersand Estates. The other four evenings take a more relaxed approach, but rest assured, the food and wine will be just as delicious.

Fire & Coast, Berkeley’s Barefoot Barbecue

Guests experienced this poolside in 2026, but my media group was lucky enough to be the first to experience this open-air, open-flame, feet-in-the-sand spectacular at the “Sunset Spot”. This one is pretty special.

Kimberley Botanicals Masterclass

All excursions and activities are included in the price of the five-night experience. This new morning masterclass, in partnership with Blue Moon Distillers, begins with a guided walk around the lodge and the newly propagated garden, discovering the native plants of the Kimberley and learning about the benefits of their oils. Then it’s back to the lodge for morning tea, where guests distil their own essential oil to take home.

The Kimberley Pantry

The new all-day grazing menu builds on this year’s introduction of simple snacks with a native twist, in partnership with Kununurra’s First Nations-owned Blak Tapas Cafe. Guests can order a cheese board after a morning on the water, charcuterie by the pool, or something sweet in the afternoon — or whenever hunger calls.

The Berkeley Evening Ritual

A surprise turndown gift will await guests each evening — small, thoughtful, and drawn from the Kimberley.

Wi-fi and guest transfer concierge

Wi-fi will now be available at all villas. This will enable guests to call the lodge directly from their villa to arrange buggy pick-ups and drop-offs should they choose.

100 per cent solar powered

The resort’s solar network was completely destroyed when cyclone Fina hit the region in 2025. It will be rebuilt and operational again for 2027, re-establishing an even lighter footprint at Australia’s most remote luxury lodge.

Fact file

The 2027 season runs from May 1-August 31. The all-inclusive five-night packages include the charter transfer from Darwin, a range of wilderness excursions, all food and beverages, and wellness experiences. Villas offer views over the Timor Sea or Berkeley River and feature air-conditioning, king-size beds, spacious decks, and an open-air ensuite — complete with rain head showers and a freestanding bathtub.
