Travel to Egypt has been largely unaffected by the situation in Gaza. There is a 12km-long border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip and the Rafah Border Crossing is the only crossing point from Egypt.

Seeming to prove this, Viking this week announced that its new Egypt ship, Viking Sobek, will join the fleet on‌ October‍ 29 — five months ahead of its original planned launch date. The ship was “floated out” today, Wednesday May 15. That marks a major construction milestone and the first time the ship has touched water.

Viking Sobek can carry up to 82 guests and has been specifically built for the Nile River. It joins identical sister ships Viking Aton, Viking Hathor and Viking Osiris.

There are new 2024 and 2025 departures of the Pharaohs & Pyramids voyage, which visits the Great Pyramids, the Great Sphinx and the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.
